International Margaret Cavendish Society Conference 2024

Brigitta Schvéd, research assistant at our Institute, will participate in the prestigious international Cavendish Conference organised by the Margaret Cavendish Society in Seville, Spain, on 12–13 December, this time in collaboration with the University of Seville.

In the fifth session of the second day of the conference (2 to 4 pm CET), she will present the results of a research project with Ferenc Hörcher focusing on Margaret Cavendish's autobiography to the international scholarly audience. Turning to the self-portraits of women painters almost contemporary with Cavendish, in particular Artemisia Gentileschi, the paper will provide analytical support for the interpretation of the famous English writer's autobiography and, above all, her particular understanding of the concept of fame, which is the focus of this year's Cavendish Conference.

The talk will be accessible online via this Teams link (no pre-registration required).

The full conference programme is available here (on the conference website).
